First
time renting a holiday cottage? Here's some hints to make your stay more
enjoyable and hassle free!
Before you leave home:
Take out cancellation
insurance!
Your online booking is provisional until you receive a
confirmation from the owner of the holiday cottage, whereupon a contract
immediately exists between you and him or her. Your dates have been reserved
for you and if you have to cancel, for whatever reason, you may be liable for
the full rental if the holiday cottage cannot be re-let. So for peace of mind,
take out holiday cancellation insurance. You can get it at Schofields from just
£12.00: http://travel.schofields.ltd.uk/
Find out about the area you're
visiting
Do some research on
what there is to do and see in the area you'll be visiting. Chances are you
won't have access to the Internet when you're there, so before you leave, find
out what there is to see and do. The owner will of course be able to help but
he or she may not live close by.
Be truthful on the booking
form!
If you're
taking your pet, make sure you advise the owner and confirm that's acceptable.
Find out whether or not there will be an additional charge. And if you declare
Fido to be a small dog, don't arrive with a Great Dane!
Don't arrive with more people in the party than
you booked for.
Turning up at the cottage with five people when you
originally booked for four, can cause serious problems, not least of which is
proper accommodation. But there can also be other consequences which can
jeopardise the owner's legal rights and status. If you suddenly decide to bring
wee Jimmy's school pal, make sure you advise the owner and confirm it's in
order before you leave.
While
you're at the cottage:
Treat the cottage like your own
home
Because for the period you've booked - it is!
and... Before you leave the
cottage:
Clean it thoroughly - leave it as you found it.
Report any damages or breakage to the owner and arrange to compensate him or
her - even if you were not asked for a security deposit when you
arrived. |
